(第一屆)美國辛辛那堤大學雙聯學位-胥如恩心得分享

Nothing can deter my ambition to advance and gain in-depth knowledge in the field of environmental engineering. The diverse and professional curriculum at the University of Cincinnati is the greatest attraction to me. I am glad to become a student at the University of Cincinnati.

I studied environmental engineering-related courses in college and started to work after graduation. After one year of working, I enhanced my professional skills, so I applied to dual-degree graduate school. I am now graduated from both the Institute of Environmental Engineering and Management at the National Taipei University of Technology, Taiwan, and the graduate program at the department of civil and environmental engineering, University of Cincinnati, USA. My main research field was indoor air quality, as a result, I took a lot of courses related to it such as Air Resources Management, Indoor Air Quality Control and management, Green House Gas Management and Practice, and Planning and Management for Air Quality. I finished research on using an electrostatic precipitator (ESP) to remove Formaldehyde (HCHO). This experiment provided some obstacles for me at the beginning. Formaldehyde is an unstable gas so I encountered great difficulties in stabilizing the concentration in Formaldehyde aeration. Then I started trying different air volumes. I also modify the experimental module myself when the experimental data is not ideal. I tried really hard on improving the removal efficiency of my research. Moreover, calibrating the Formaldehyde detection instrument properly is important as well, so I spent a lot of time self-learning instrument calibration on the internet.

Besides studying, I take a part-time job at HDEC Corporation. This company focuses on integrating environmental engineering projects, specializing in water and waste treatment, as well as renewable energy. My main project in this company was building a dashboard in order to make all sewage treatment plants that we operate and maintain easier to manage. I really learned a lot in this project. I have seen all the processes in the sewage treatment plant and reclaimed water plant in person. If I hadn't worked here, I wouldn't have had the chance to see the operation of the sewage and reclaimed water plants.

I am not only interested in air quality but also interest wastewater treatment, which is the reason why I am willing to study abroad. By studying and taking an internship in Cincinnati, I learned more about different technologies or compare the differences and gain more experience.
